Environmental Impacts Considered
RGD provided assistance to Zaporizhzhia and Zakarpattya regions in the development and implementation of regional development strategies where the environment was identified as a key strategic objective. As part of RGD’s PMT and CIT programs, regional civil servants and civil society representatives were trained and mentored on designing and implementing projects that address negative environmental conditions, as well as consider the environmental impacts of their respective projects. This was done through specific training on analyzing environmental impacts and determining whether environmental impact assessments (EIAs) were required. RGD’s work in the pilot regions increased stakeholders’ awareness of local environmental issues, and strengthened their capacities to develop programming that is responsive to the environment.

About the project

The Regional Governance and Development (RGD) Project is a seven-year initiative that promotes regional economic development (RED) in Ukraine. RGD’s current efforts focus on working with its Ukrainian partners to establish a practical in-service training program on RED for some 600 civil servants from 13 oblasts across Ukraine.
