“MAKING A DIFFERENCE IN REGIONAL DEVELOPMENT:
KEY RESULTS AND LESSONS LEARNED FROM
THE REGIONAL GOVERNANCE AND DEVELOPMENT PROJECT”
In 2006 when Ukraine enacted its State Strategy for Regional Development, the country was at a turning point when it was essential to move ahead rapidly with an agenda of economic development and reforms to the business enabling environment. It was widely acknowledged that the country could only achieve its vision through a program of regional development.
The Canada-Ukraine Regional Governance and Development Project supported by funding from the Canadian International Development Agency and implemented by the Canadian Urban Institute in association with the Foundation for International Training and the National Association of Regional Development Agencies has been supporting its key partners – the Ministry of Economy of Ukraine and the oblasts of Zaporizhzhia and Zakarpattya – through technical assistance for the past four and a half years in developing models for regional development.
You are invited to join us for a day-long event that explores the state of regional governance and development in the country and will seek answers for questions such as:
• What new policy solutions are in place at the national level to enable regional development and growth?
• What approaches and solutions enable regional competitiveness and economic diversification?
• How are local communities and private sector actors working together with local and regional authorities to advance regional development?
• What are the lessons learned from the project and what are the future prospects for regional development?
Join us for a day of presentations and discussions!
The goal of the project’s final forum is to present and discuss in details and exchange views on specific experiences in regional strategic planning and implementation the project partners have gained working with the RGD project.
The forum agenda will include a number of consecutive plenary sessions.
The forum will take place in «Rus» Hotel (4, Hospitalna Str., Kyiv, Ukraine) on November 3, 2009 from 10.00 till 16.30.
