Zaporizhzhia continues to fine-tune M&E system
The Zaporizhzhia Regional State Administration has been a partner of the RGD Project since 2005. Our project team assisted the oblast to formulate a regional development strategy with extensive community input, and then to move toward implementation of their strategy. We did this through several training programs and working sessions that increased the region’s capacities to: a) translate its strategic priorities into economic initiatives, community development projects and infrastructure investments; and b) access a wider range of investment sources for implementation.
Our current work in Zaporizhzhia involves establishing a Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E) system, which is the last component required to complete the full-cycle strategic planning process. The system is intended to monitor and evaluate the progress of the strategy’s implementation on a quarterly and annual basis. The results of these M&E activities are planned to be made available to the general public through the Administration’s website. To provide relevant Canadian technical expertise in this regard, Bohdan Wynnycky, RGD’s Canadian M&E Specialist recently travelled to Zaporizhzhia. He participated in several M&E working groups, and provided best practices from Canada and Poland and practical recommendations to implement a transparent system that would effectively monitor the progress achieved vis-à-vis the Zaporizhzhia development strategy. He also shared good examples of how Canadian municipalities are reporting monitoring results to the public via innovative and interactive webstes.
