Zakarpattya Oblast
Zakarpattya (also referred to as Uzhgorod) is situated on the western edge of Ukraine and is an active member of the Carpathian Euroregion – the inter-regional association of frontier lands in Ukraine, Poland, Slovakia, Hungary and Romania, all of which Zakarpattya borders. No other oblast in Ukraine is as diverse as Zakarpattya, with 80 nationalities represented in the region. The climate is moderate continental, with almost 80% of the territory taken up by the Carpathian Mountains and the rest by lowlands. Half the region is covered by forests, mineral deposits are significant, and there are numerous possibilities for the development of small hydro-electric enterprises. The region also has good potential for tourism and recreation.

More information about Zakarpattya is available on the Oblast State Administration’s website.
