Second Regional Forum in Zaporizhzhia - November 6, 2006
On November 6, the regional forum “Perspectives on Regional Development in Ukraine: Current Practices and Zaporizhzhia’s Experience” was held in the city of Zaporizhzhia in partnership with the RGD project, Zaporizhzhia Oblast Administration and Zaporizhzhia Oblast Council. The keynote speakers of the forum included Oleksandr Berezhnij, acting first deputy head of Zaporizhzhia Oblast State Administration (ZOSA), Leonid Anisimov, deputy head of the ZOSA, Yevhen Kartashov, head of Zaporizhzhia city, Oleksandr Sin, advisor to the head of administration and curator of the RGD project in the region, Tetiana Kravets, head of the division on mid-term and long-term planning for regional development, Ministry of Economy of Ukraine, Dr. Tibor Frank, Lead International Expert of the project, Peter Szegvari, governance expert from Hungary, and representatives from other oblasts. The forum included three discussion sessions on the following issues – national support for regional development, strategic planning and regional development, and new instruments for regional and city development: the experience of Zaporizhzhia oblast – during which current international and Ukrainian practices were discussed, as well as the strategic planning experience of Zaporizhzhia oblast.
About the project
The Regional Governance and Development (RGD) Project is a seven-year initiative that promotes regional economic development (RED) in Ukraine. RGD’s current efforts focus on working with its Ukrainian partners to establish a practical in-service training program on RED for some 600 civil servants from 13 oblasts across Ukraine.
